Colonna di Sigismondo
Uno dei più importanti simboli della città di Varsavia è sicuramente la Colonna di Sigismondo (Kolumna Zygmunta), eretta nel 1644 in onore del re Sigismondo III Vasa dal figlio Ladislao IV. Il monumento è costituito da una colonna alta 22 metri, sulla quale è posta la statua in bronzo di re Sigismondo III. La statua fu progettata dall’italiano Costantino Tencalla, disegnata da Clemente Molli e placcata in bronzo da Daniel Tym. Il re è raffigurato con una grande croce nella mano sinistra e una sciabola nella destra. Il fusto originale della colonna era in marmo rosso, proveniente dalle cave di Chęciny. Il piedistallo e il pulvino erano invece di marmo nero.La statua fu distrutta dai tedeschi nel 1944 e ricostruita 5 anni dopo.Il monumento fu eretto in occasione del trasferimento di capitale da Cracovia a Varsavia.
