La chiesa di San Michele di Lovanio
Su Naamsestraat, una delle vie principali della città di Lovanio, troviamo una delle sette meraviglie della città: Sint-Michielskerk, cioè la Chiesa di San Michele. Si tratta di una ex chiesa gesuita, in stile barocco: la facciata è inconfondibile e richiama fortemente questo stile artistico così diffuso nel Sud Italia.
Proprio la facciata è la cosa più interessante della chiesa di San Michele: progettata nel 1650 da un prete-architetto, van Hees di Lovanio, si presenta molto semplice e pulita, ma perfetta nelle sue geometrie. A Lovanio si dice che la precisione e la bellezza di questa facciata fa quasi pensare che ci sia un altare al di fuori della chiesa.
L’interno è invece caratterizzato da tre navate, a cui lati sono visibili alcune opere tra cui quelle di Erasmus II Quellinus, un assistente di Rubens.
